Perpetua Bar
Vancouver
The Perpetua Bar served as the centrepiece of the 2024 Vancouver Interior Design Show. Bold yet thoughtful, it redefined what a gathering space can be. Rather than sitting quietly in a corner, the installation opened on all sides, welcoming visitors from every angle. As a result, it became instantly visible throughout the venue and drew people in naturally from the moment they arrived.
At its core, Perpetua functioned as a true hub for connection. In doing so, it embodied openness while still maintaining a gentle sense of enclosure — a balance that is harder to achieve than it sounds. Specifically, the interplay of form and function transformed the bar from a service point into a meeting place. Furthermore, its central position within the venue meant that conversation, movement, and energy naturally gathered around it throughout the event.
The design also carried a clear commitment to sustainability. Rather than relying on single-use materials, the team built Perpetua entirely from reusable components. In this way, the installation made its environmental values visible and tangible, not just stated. Consequently, every material choice reinforced the broader message — that good design and responsible practice are not in conflict. Together, they can and should work as one.
Above all, Perpetua proved that temporary installations need not be throwaway. In doing so, it challenged the conventions of event design directly. Rather than fading into the background, it became a destination in its own right — a place where people lingered, connected, and returned to throughout the day. Ultimately, The Perpetua Bar demonstrated that openness, craft, and sustainability can combine to create something genuinely memorable.
