Ski to Sky Chalet

Revelstoke

PROJECT TYPE: Residential
SIZE: 18,000 sq ft
COMPLETED: Under Construction

Constructed on a series of slopeside properties, this residence in Revelstoke sits within a landscape shaped by both summer and winter. From the outset, the steep terrain demands a design that cascades down the hillside while still holding enough elevation to capture views of Mt. Begbie at every level. Given this, every decision — from massing to orientation — responds directly to the slope.

To support privacy, the street-facing façade presents a modest two-story form with limited openings. Meanwhile, the entrance sits on an adjacent lot, allowing the front of the home to blend into the planted surroundings and feel secluded. In this way, the approach remains intentional, understated, and fully aligned with the natural setting. Rather than announcing itself, the home quietly belongs.

Inside, the layout follows a clear, linear flow from floor to floor. Hallways align with the street side, which in turn frees the mountain side entirely for open-plan living spaces. From there, rooms open onto large cantilevered decks through full-height sliding doors, strengthening the indoor-outdoor connection and framing the landscape beyond. Not only does this arrangement maximize views, but it also ensures that each level enjoys generous access to natural light.

Beyond the interior, the design places strong emphasis on outdoor living. Cozy indoor-outdoor snugs, fireplaces, swimming pools, and outdoor kitchens appear throughout, each one reinforcing the relationship between shelter and landscape. Moreover, every space adapts easily to both intimate evenings and larger gatherings, offering flexibility across all seasons. Whether in summer or deep winter, the home performs equally well.

To address Revelstoke’s challenging climate, the home incorporates extended cantilevers and generous overhangs. These protective forms shield outdoor areas and building edges from winter snow, while in summer they offer vital shade and help keep interior spaces comfortable. In both cases, the result is a home that performs across the full range of mountain conditions. Taken together, these moves improve comfort, resilience, and year-round usability.

Inside, the interiors merge rugged mountain character with a calm, refined atmosphere. To that end, consistent materials create continuity and soften transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. One particularly effective move is the use of matching flooring materials inside and out. As a direct result, the visual flow becomes seamless — deepening the home’s connection to the natural surroundings and reinforcing, at every turn, the sense that interior and landscape are one.
