This multifamily mixed-use building sits in the heart of downtown Squamish, adding a distinct architectural presence to the evolving town centre. It combines residential living with active ground-level commercial uses. In doing so, it reinforces density, walkability, and street-level vitality where they matter most.

The architectural expression rests on a deliberate contrast of materials. Weathering corten steel introduces depth, texture, and permanence — its patina shifting over time in response to climate and use. In contrast, white-painted wood elements soften the composition, bringing lightness and clarity to the façade. Together, these materials create a dialogue between durability and warmth, between industrial character and residential scale.

Throughout the project, generous planting and integrated landscaping extend the public realm upward and inward. Specifically, green terraces, planted setbacks, and softened edges mediate between building and street. As a result, the design offers moments of pause while maintaining a strong connection to nature within an urban setting. Rather than an afterthought, landscape becomes a core architectural component — shaping experience and identity at every scale.

Ultimately, the building is both grounded and expressive. It embraces material honesty, urban density, and ecological awareness in equal measure. Furthermore, its position in downtown Squamish allows it to contribute a contemporary, place-specific response to mixed-use living. Above all, the project prioritizes longevity, adaptability, and a meaningful relationship to its surroundings.
