Squamish

PROJECT TYPE: Multi-Family
SIZE: Private

This multifamily mixed-use building is situated in the heart of downtown Squamish, contributing a distinct architectural presence to the evolving urban fabric. The project combines residential living with active ground-level commercial uses, reinforcing density, walkability, and street-level vitality within the town centre.
The architectural expression is defined by a deliberate contrast of materials.

Weathering corten steel introduces depth, texture, and a sense of permanence, its patina evolving over time in response to climate and use. This is balanced by white-painted wood elements that soften the composition, bringing lightness and clarity to the façade. Together, these materials establish a dialogue between durability and warmth, industrial character and residential scale.

Generous planting and integrated landscaping are woven throughout the project, extending the public realm upward and inward. Green terraces, planted setbacks, and softened edges mediate between building and street, offering moments of pause while reinforcing a strong connection to nature within an urban setting. Landscape becomes an architectural component rather than an afterthought, shaping experience and identity at multiple scales.

The result is a building that is both grounded and expressive, one that embraces material honesty, urban density, and ecological awareness. Positioned within downtown Squamish, the project contributes a contemporary, place-specific response to mixed-use living that prioritizes longevity, adaptability, and a meaningful relationship to its environment.
