Camp Light
Squamish
The Camp Light grew directly from the landscape design of the Passive House Forest Retreat. Rather than introducing a foreign object into the setting, it carries the architectural language of the home out into the surrounding terrain. In doing so, it extends the design conversation beyond the building’s walls and into the natural world.
The silhouette draws directly from the residence’s angular form. Specifically, sharp and deliberate lines translate into a grounded, sculptural fixture that feels considered rather than decorative. As a result, the piece reads as a natural extension of the architecture rather than an accessory to it. Furthermore, its compact scale keeps it rooted in the landscape without competing with the surroundings.
Handcrafted in corten steel, The Camp Light sits quietly within its setting. It offers illumination without visual noise — light where it is needed, nothing more. Over time, the steel’s patina shifts and deepens, helping the fixture blend further into the natural context. In this way, the piece actually improves with age, growing more resolved as the seasons pass. Rather than resisting the elements, it embraces them entirely.
Together, these qualities reflect the broader values of the Passive House Forest Retreat — durability, restraint, and a design approach shaped by both place and geometry. Above all, The Camp Light proves that even the smallest details deserve the same level of care and intention as the architecture itself. Ultimately, it is a simple object, made well, and placed thoughtfully — and that is precisely what makes it work.
